Community solar project approved in Brunswick

Brunswick will soon have its own community solar farm!

In May, the Brunswick Planning Board approved our Tamarac Community Solar project. It will have a capacity of 7.5 MW which will generate enough green power for about 1,225 average-sized homes. When it comes to carbon savings, this is comparable to planting 10,000 trees that can absorb approximately 310,000 pounds of CO2 each year (Source: EPA).

Construction for this project has yet to be determined, but priority subscriptions will be offered to Brunswick residents and businesses before we break ground. By subscribing to this community solar farm, Brunswick residents can save 10% on their electricity bills while supporting their local community, healthy pollinator habitats, and a clean energy future. Together, the Town of Brunswick can save $158,860 if Brunswick residents fill it to capacity. Reserve your spot today.

Like all of our sites in the Capital District, Tamarac will have wildflower meadows to provide bees and other pollinators habitats to thrive in. Beehives will also be placed on the site to offer pollination services that support local farmers. Nesting boxes will be installed along the perimeter to allow birds and bats places to rest. Ecological surveys will be conducted annually to track and continuously improve the site.

The site will also establish an annual education fund of $3,000 for Brunswick Central School District-- $2,000 towards site visits and in-school workshops and $1,000 towards the Green STEAM Scholarship--to encourage and support student interest in STEM subjects.
